Outdoors For All is a new initiative that focuses on access to green spaces and consists of two separate events. The first event on Wednesday, October 18th is Outdoors for All: A Community Conversation about Nature, Health, and Equity. This interactive workshop will discuss the importance of access to green spaces as we work to understand the physical, economic, and emotional barriers to spending time in nature. The week will end with TRAILS FOR ALL PEOPLE a two-day workshop on October 19 and 20 that reviews best management practices for inclusive planning, design, construction, and management of pedestrian trails that are usable by all people. This workshop will be led by Larry Knutson, president of Penn Trails LLC.

This two-day event is $50 per person and limited to 30 participants. Registration closes on October 12th.
TRAILS FOR ALL PEOPLE is a two-day workshop to review best management practices (BMPs) for inclusive planning, design, construction, and management of pedestrian trails that are usable by all people. Taught by Larry Knutson, president of Penn Trails LLC www.penntrails.com one of the foremost trail industry companies promoting, designing and building trails per the principles of universal design for trails and the outdoors.
The Principles of Universal Design and the recognized standards for Accessible Trails will be discussed as they can be utilized to provide greater access for more people, including people with disabilities. Focus will include addressing pedestrian trails planning, design and management to provide pedestrian opportunities, to the greatest extent possible, within the constraints presented by the terrain and your organization’s intended trail experiences for people using your trails. Examples of actual accessible trail projects from a variety of states and land trust settings will be utilized. The workshop will also examine the importance of community engagement, with the view that everyone should have access to trail opportunities and that the planning and design of trails should account for the great variation in abilities, cultural backgrounds, and other facets of the human condition.
